Dr. Bai Hongmei

Elevated insulin levels can be attributed to the following factors:

1. Poor dietary habits: Long-term consumption of high-sugar foods, such as cream cakes and sugarcane, may lead to increased blood glucose levels, thereby stimulating insulin secretion and resulting in elevated values.

2. Abnormal pancreatic beta cell function: For example, insulinoma, a rare endocrine tumor, may cause abnormal increased secretion of insulin.

3. Medication effects: Certain medications, such as oral hypoglycemic agents and corticosteroids, may promote insulin secretion or enhance its action, leading to elevated insulin levels.

4. Hypertension and hyperlipidemia: These conditions may impair the biological effects of insulin, causing the body to secrete more insulin to maintain blood glucose levels.

5. Abnormal liver function: The liver is the main organ responsible for insulin clearance. When liver function is impaired, reduced insulin clearance may lead to elevated insulin levels.

6. Acute stress states: Such as severe infection or trauma, during which the body may increase insulin secretion to meet changes in metabolic demands.

Elevated insulin levels have multiple causes. Patients are advised to seek timely medical attention to identify the underlying cause through relevant examinations and to follow medical guidance for treatment.
