Can people with gout eat Chinese chives?
I have gout and frequently experience joint pain, especially in my toes and ankles. I am currently being very careful with my diet. I'm wondering if I can eat Chinese chives (garlic chives). Are Chinese chives considered spicy food? Could eating them worsen my gout condition? Can individuals with gout eat Chinese chives?

Gout patients can consume leeks in moderation.
Gout is a disease caused by abnormal uric acid metabolism in the body, primarily manifesting as joint inflammation and pain. Its occurrence is closely related to hyperuricemia. Therefore, foods high in purines should not be consumed. Leeks have relatively low purine content and do not directly increase uric acid levels in the body, thus not exacerbating gout symptoms. At the same time, leeks also offer certain nutritional benefits, such as containing protein, dietary fiber, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. Consuming them in moderation is beneficial to overall health.
However, leeks are considered spicy and stimulating foods. Excessive consumption may irritate the gastric mucosa, causing discomfort symptoms such as stomach pain. Additionally, leeks do contain a certain amount of purines. Although their purine content is not as high as that found in animal offal or seafood, gout patients still need to be cautious.
Therefore, gout patients can consume leeks in moderation. During an acute gout attack, all high-purine foods, including leeks, should be avoided to reduce uric acid production and control the condition. During the remission phase of gout, leeks can be consumed in moderation, but attention should be paid to a balanced diet and avoiding excessive intake of high-purine foods.
