I recently had moxibustion therapy. May I ask, how long should I wait before taking a shower after moxibustion?

Generally, it is recommended to wait at least 1-2 hours before taking a bath after moxibustion, as the body needs some time to recover and adjust following the treatment.

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medical therapy that involves applying heat and medicinal effects generated by burning mugwort to specific acupuncture points on the body, aiming to warm and unblock the meridians and regulate the flow of blood and qi. After moxibustion, because the skin pores are open and the body is gradually adjusting its functions, it is important to maintain warmth and personal hygiene. Following moxibustion, the circulation of blood and qi usually accelerates, and the pores open. Therefore, it is not advisable to bathe immediately, as this may allow cold or dampness to enter the body, potentially affecting the effectiveness of the moxibustion treatment or causing discomfort, especially for individuals with weak constitutions or the elderly, who should wait even longer before bathing. It is advisable to wait until the body gradually returns to its normal state and the pores have closed before taking a bath, which typically takes about 1-2 hours. Additionally, when bathing, ensure that the water temperature is moderate—not too cold—to avoid catching a chill. Furthermore, the duration of the bath should not be too long, to prevent excessive physical exhaustion.
