These days, my nipples have been itchy for no apparent reason, which is really uncomfortable. I clean myself thoroughly every day while showering, and I haven't been wearing any inappropriate underwear. What could be causing this?

Nipple itching is a common symptom that may be caused by various factors, such as puberty development, pregnancy, excessive cleaning, hormonal changes, and breast diseases.

Rapid breast development during puberty may lead to nipple discharge, creating an environment conducive to bacterial growth. Poor hygiene, inappropriate undergarments, soaps or shower gels, and failure to clean the breasts promptly can all contribute to nipple itching. Women may experience nipple itching during pregnancy, which is a normal response due to the development of areas where milk is secreted in the body.

Over-cleaning can disrupt the skin's natural oil layer, resulting in nipple itching. Hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle may affect skin sensitivity and moisture levels, leading to itching. Nipple itching can also be caused by conditions such as mastitis and mammary gland hyperplasia. Breast cancer may cause nipple itching, typically accompanied by areolar pain, a burning sensation in the nipple, or the presence of lumps or pus in the breast.

If nipple itching is accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, discharge, pain, or lumps, prompt medical attention is advised to rule out more serious health issues. Treatment typically depends on the specific cause and may include moisturizers, antifungal medications, antibiotics, or hormone-containing creams.
