Can hypertrophic scars be rehabilitated through massage?
I am 21 years old this year. I previously had an injury that resulted in a hypertrophic scar on my hand. May I ask whether hypertrophic scars can be improved through massage?

It is not possible to completely reverse hypertrophic scars through massage. Massage plays an auxiliary role in scar treatment; by promoting local blood circulation and softening scar tissue, it can alleviate the stiffness and tightness of the scar to some extent, improve the scar's flexibility, and may also improve the color and appearance of the scar. However, massage cannot directly eliminate scar tissue or prevent further scar proliferation.
Hypertrophic scars are mainly caused by excessive deposition of collagen, often occurring during the wound healing process following deep skin injuries. These scars are raised above the surrounding normal skin, have a firm texture, and are sometimes accompanied by itching and pain. There are various treatment options for hypertrophic scars, including radiotherapy, chemical peeling, and surgical excision. For mild scar proliferation, massage combined with topical medications may help suppress and fade the scars. However, for more severe hypertrophic scars, more specialized treatments such as laser therapy or microdermabrasion may be required to achieve better therapeutic results.
It is recommended that treatment be conducted under the guidance of a qualified physician. The doctor will develop a personalized treatment plan based on the specific characteristics of the scar, including its location, size, age, and the patient's overall health condition. This plan may include physical therapy, medication, laser treatment, surgical excision, or other methods to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.
