Clinical manifestations of abnormal liver function are diverse, and common symptoms include digestive system disturbances, jaundice, abdominal discomfort, palmar erythema (liver palms), and a tendency to bleed.

When liver function is impaired, the digestive system is often affected. Patients commonly experience loss of appetite, lack of interest in foods they usually enjoy, and a significant decrease in food intake. Nausea and vomiting may also occur, especially upon waking or after consuming fatty meals, with symptoms worsening at these times. Some individuals may feel bloated, experiencing a sensation of fullness and discomfort even after eating small amounts.

Jaundice is another common manifestation. Due to impaired liver function and abnormal bilirubin metabolism, elevated bilirubin levels in the blood cause yellowing of the skin and sclera, and urine may darken to a tea-like color. Regarding abdominal discomfort, patients may experience dull or distending pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, varying in intensity and sometimes presenting as intermittent episodes.

Palmar erythema is also a characteristic feature of abnormal liver function. Patients develop patchy redness and congestion on the skin of the thenar and hypothenar eminences of the palms, which fades temporarily upon pressure. Additionally, impaired liver function affects the synthesis of coagulation factors, leading to an increased tendency to bleed. Patients may experience nosebleeds, gum bleeding, and bruising or petechiae following minor trauma or friction to the skin.

If these symptoms occur, prompt medical evaluation of liver function is necessary for early detection and treatment.
