I am a 22-year-old female. I am planning to receive a vaccine soon and am unsure whether I need to go on an empty stomach. I am concerned that eating might affect the vaccine's effectiveness or trigger adverse reactions. Should I fast before getting vaccinated?

Vaccination generally does not require fasting; on the contrary, maintaining appropriate food intake can help reduce discomfort. Receiving a vaccine on an empty stomach may cause hypoglycemia, leading to adverse reactions such as dizziness and weakness, especially when the body is already weak or under stress. Most vaccines are not affected by food intake; therefore, it is recommended to eat moderate amounts of light and easily digestible food before vaccination. However, overeating or consuming overly greasy food may cause gastrointestinal discomfort and negatively affect the vaccination experience.

To ensure a smooth vaccination process, it is advisable to avoid fasting and maintain adequate rest before vaccination. Wear loose clothing on the day of vaccination to facilitate injection, and bring necessary identification documents and vaccination records. After vaccination, you should remain in the observation area for at least 30 minutes to ensure there are no severe adverse reactions before leaving. If you experience mild discomfort, drinking more water and resting can help alleviate symptoms. If you have any special health conditions or are currently taking medications, consult a doctor in advance to confirm whether vaccination is appropriate for you.
