Which is better for double eyelid surgery, the non-incision (buried suture) method or the incision (cutting) method?
I've always wanted to get double eyelid surgery but couldn't decide between the non-incisional (埋线) and incisional methods. My eyelids are relatively thin and occasionally experience swelling. I'm unsure which approach would be more suitable for me?
Both sutured double eyelid surgery and incisional double eyelid surgery are good options, and the choice should be based on individual circumstances under the guidance of a doctor.
Sutured double eyelid surgery does not require removal of skin or fat. It creates the eyelid fold by stitching and fixing the eyelid skin to the levator aponeurosis, resulting in minimal trauma and a faster recovery. If the results are unsatisfactory, adjustments can be made by removing the sutures. Postoperative swelling and bruising are mild, and normal daily activities can usually resume within a week. This method is generally suitable for individuals with thin eyelid skin, low skin laxity, and minimal fat. However, for some people, the crease formed by suturing may fade over time, requiring repeat surgery.
Incisional double eyelid surgery (also known as full-incision double eyelid surgery) is characterized by its scarless, natural, and aesthetically pleasing results. It is suitable for various eyelid conditions, including ptosis, excessive skin laxity, and fat accumulation. This method employs minimally invasive techniques and offers long-lasting results with a relatively quick recovery. However, it causes more tissue trauma, often accompanied by significant swelling, and once the procedure is completed, reversing or altering the original structure is difficult.
Regardless of the method chosen, the procedure should be performed at a qualified medical facility to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.
