Under normal circumstances, the risk of HIV infection from mouth ulcers is low.

HIV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact, blood transmission, and mother-to-child transmission. Sexual transmission is one of the primary routes of HIV spread, and high-risk sexual behaviors, such as unprotected sex, increase the risk of HIV infection. Blood transmission includes sharing needles or receiving contaminated blood products. Mother-to-child transmission refers to transmission from an HIV-positive mother to her infant during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.

Mouth ulcers are a common oral mucosal condition, usually caused by viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. They do not, by themselves, lead to HIV infection. During high-risk sexual activities, if either partner has broken or abraded oral or genital mucous membranes and one partner is HIV-positive, the virus may enter the other person's body through the damaged mucous membranes, thereby increasing the risk of infection. However, this risk is generally very low during everyday contact between individuals with mouth ulcers and HIV-positive individuals.

HIV infection requires a certain viral load. Under normal circumstances, the wounds caused by mouth ulcers are usually small, and the amount of virus present in the mouth and saliva is generally low, resulting in a low probability of infection. However, if a person with mouth ulcers has direct contact with HIV-infected blood, such as sharing contaminated needles or medical instruments, or engages in other high-risk exposure behaviors, the risk of infection significantly increases.

For individuals with mouth ulcers, the key to preventing HIV infection is to avoid high-risk contact with HIV-positive individuals and to maintain good lifestyle and hygiene habits. Additionally, if you suspect you may have contracted HIV, it is important to seek medical attention and undergo appropriate testing promptly.
