Has been coughing continuously for more than a week, could it be a viral infection? Why hasn't the baby's cough improved after 10 days?

Dr. Zhou Xiaofeng

Children's immune systems are not yet fully developed, and their resistance is relatively weak, making them highly susceptible to infections such as viruses, bacteria, and mycoplasma. A child's cough lasting for 10 days is usually caused by an infection. If it is caused by a viral infection, antitussive medications such as dextromethorphan or Ji Zhi syrup can be used. If the cause is bacterial infection, antibiotics such as amoxicillin or ceftriaxone are primarily used. For mycoplasma infection, treatment can include azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics.
