How to prevent mumps
I heard that mumps is highly contagious. I would like to know how to prevent it. Someone around me has the disease, and I'm worried about getting infected. What aspects of daily life should I focus on for protection?
Prevention of mumps is mainly achieved through vaccination, maintaining good personal hygiene habits, eating a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, and avoiding contact with the virus.
The most effective preventive measure is vaccination with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) combined vaccine. Children should receive one dose of the MMR vaccine at approximately 1 year of age and another dose at 4 to 6 years of age. Frequent handwashing, especially before eating, after using the toilet, and after coughing or sneezing, is important. Avoid sharing personal items such as eating utensils and cups with others. When coughing or sneezing, use a tissue to cover the mouth and nose, and dispose of used tissues immediately.
Consuming vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and dietary fiber, such as tomatoes, apples, and oranges, as well as foods high in protein, such as lean meat, milk, and soy products, can help enhance immune function. Participating appropriately in outdoor activities, such as running, hiking, and swimming, can improve physical fitness and immune function, playing a positive role in preventing mumps.
Try to avoid close contact with known mumps patients, especially during their infectious period. If a family member or friend has mumps, appropriate isolation measures should be taken to reduce the risk of transmission.
