How to Care for Yourself After Vocal Cord Polyp Surgery
I just had surgery for vocal cord polyps. I'm not very clear about how to take care of myself after the operation. What are the key points for postoperative care regarding diet, voice use, and daily rest?

Postoperative care for vocal cord polyps is a crucial part of the recovery process; proper care can promote wound healing, reduce complications, and protect vocal cord function.
In the early postoperative period, speaking should be avoided as much as possible, especially whispering, as this increases the burden on the vocal cords. Voice use should be gradually resumed under a physician's guidance. After surgery, soft, liquid, or semi-liquid foods are recommended, while spicy, excessively hot, or cold foods should be avoided to reduce irritation to the throat. Adequate hydration is important, although beverages containing caffeine or alcohol should be avoided.
Oral corticosteroids may be taken for three days postoperatively as directed by a physician. Appropriate traditional Chinese medicines or throat lozenges that soothe the throat may also be used to reduce local edema. Performing deep inhalation exercises more than ten times per hour can help prevent vocal cord adhesions. Developing the habit of brushing teeth in the morning and evening, and rinsing the mouth after meals, helps reduce bacterial growth in the oral cavity. Keeping warm after surgery to avoid upper respiratory tract infections and engaging in appropriate physical exercise to strengthen the body's resistance are also recommended.
Surgery and the recovery process may cause certain psychological stress; appropriate psychological counseling and support can help patients cope more effectively.
