In general, for most people, the degree of myopia stops increasing around the age of 18, although in some individuals it may continue progressing until around 30 years of age or even later before fully stabilizing.

Eye axis length refers to the distance from the front to the back of the eye, and its elongation is closely related to the development of myopia. During growth and development, especially during adolescence, the eye axis gradually lengthens along with overall body development. Around the age of 18, when general body development mostly stops, the elongation of the eye axis also slows down and eventually ceases, leading to a relatively stable degree of myopia.

However, this does not mean that everyone's myopia will stop progressing at this age. Individual variation is significant, and some people may not achieve full stabilization until the age of 30 or later. Therefore, individuals with myopia, regardless of age, should maintain good eye habits and undergo regular eye examinations to monitor changes in myopia and take timely interventions when necessary.

Patients with high or pathological myopia should pay even closer attention to their eye health, avoid strenuous physical activity and eye trauma, and reduce the risk of retinal complications.
