Disease description:

Recently, many red patches have appeared on my arms and legs, covered with a layer of white scales. I always feel the urge to pick at them, and the more I scratch, the itchier they become, even leading to bleeding. Could this be psoriasis? How can I manage it?

In general, psoriasis may be accompanied by itching symptoms.

Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent autoimmune disease primarily characterized by red patches and scaling on the skin. Patients often experience varying degrees of itching, although not all patients feel significant itching. The intensity of itching varies from person to person; some patients may only experience mild discomfort, while others may suffer from severe itching that affects their daily life and sleep quality.

The itching sensation in psoriasis is typically associated with skin inflammation, excessive proliferation of the keratin layer, and increased sensitivity of nerve endings. During skin inflammation, various inflammatory mediators are released, which can stimulate nerve endings and cause itching. Additionally, patients with psoriasis frequently experience rapid epidermal cell proliferation and thickening of the keratin layer, which may also exacerbate itching.

In daily life, patients should maintain clean and moisturized skin, avoid irritating behaviors such as scratching or washing with hot water, and prevent aggravation of skin lesions and itching. Maintaining a positive mindset and healthy lifestyle habits can also promote recovery from psoriasis.
