What is the diopter equivalent of 4.0 visual acuity?

Disease description:

I went to the hospital for a physical examination two days ago. During the vision test, the doctor recorded my visual acuity as “4.0.” I’m not sure what this corresponds to in terms of diopters, so I’d like to ask here: What is 4.0 vision in diopters?

Hello, Each person’s eyes have varying degrees of sensitivity. Vision testing primarily assesses whether an individual has myopia (nearsightedness), refractive errors, or astigmatism. As such, vision testing encompasses multiple methods, and visual acuity is generally *not* quantified in “degrees” (i.e., diopters). A visual acuity of 4.0 (on the Chinese logarithmic视力 scale) typically indicates myopia, roughly equivalent to −5.00 diopters of refractive error. Therefore, corrective lenses are generally recommended for visual acuity of 4.0. Without appropriate optical correction, progressive deterioration of vision may occur over time. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
