What Is the Best Approach to Myopia in Children?
Disease description:
Recently, my child suddenly developed myopia. What is the best approach for managing childhood myopia?
Myopia in children can be managed conservatively or surgically. If the degree of myopia is relatively mild, optical correction with prescription eyeglasses—under the guidance of a qualified ophthalmologist—is typically recommended to help alleviate progression. In cases of high myopia, laser refractive surgery may be advised in consultation with an ophthalmologist to facilitate a quicker return to normal vision.
