What complications can occur after a femoral head fracture?
Disease description:
I accidentally got into a car accident, which resulted in a femoral head fracture. What complications can occur after a femoral head fracture?
Complications following femoral head fractures may include avascular necrosis or post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the hip joint, both of which can cause pain and swelling in the affected joint; severe cases may even lead to mobility impairment. Avascular necrosis can be treated surgically via joint replacement, whereas osteoarthritis may be managed with corticosteroid medications under a physician’s guidance. Although complications may occur after joint replacement surgery, these are potential—not inevitable—outcomes; therefore, excessive concern is unwarranted. Instead, optimal nursing care and rehabilitation during the illness remain the top priorities.
