Common causes of sciatica include lumbar disc herniation or degenerative lumbar spine diseases, accounting for over 90% of cases. The most frequent cause is lumbar disc herniation compressing the L4, L5, or S1 nerve roots. Additionally, conditions such as osteophyte formation (bone spurs), spondylolisthesis, or spinal stenosis may also compress the nerve roots, leading to pain.
