What Is Tinea Versicolor?
Disease description:
I’ve developed some spots on my face. After visiting the hospital for an examination, the doctor diagnosed them as tinea versicolor—but I’m not sure what that is. What exactly is tinea versicolor?
Tinea versicolor is most commonly caused by Malassezia infection and typically presents with mild inflammation. In more severe cases, hypopigmentation may occur, and in extreme instances, lesions may spread across the entire body. Treatment should be guided by a physician and may include oral antifungal medications or topical application of ketoconazole cream, both of which help alleviate symptoms. In daily life, avoid consuming spicy foods such as chili peppers.
