Causes of Blood in the Mouth and Throat Upon Waking
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve frequently noticed a metallic (blood-like) taste in my mouth upon waking, and my sputum contains streaks of blood. What could be causing blood in the mouth and throat upon waking in the morning?
This condition is most likely caused by oral ulcers or gingival bleeding. Oral ulcers and gingival bleeding typically result from inadequate personal oral hygiene. It is recommended that you brush your teeth thoroughly both morning and night, and rinse your mouth promptly after meals. Additionally, hematologic disorders cannot be ruled out; therefore, it is advisable to visit a hospital for a complete blood count (CBC) to exclude thrombocytopenia.
