Disease description:

I recently underwent a physical examination, which revealed cerebellar atrophy. I would like to ask: What are the symptoms of cerebellar atrophy from the early to the late stages?

Dr. Zhang Ligong
In the early stage of cerebellar atrophy, patients may experience cognitive decline, gait instability with lateral swaying while walking, and impaired speech function. Common adverse symptoms include dizziness, insomnia, and numbness in the hands and feet. In the advanced stage, patients are typically bedridden, completely dependent on others for daily activities, and may develop dementia and urinary or fecal incontinence. Currently, the primary treatment for cerebellar atrophy is pharmacotherapy, aimed at controlling pathological changes in brain tissue to slow disease progression.
