The most prominent symptom of rectal ulcers is severe bloody diarrhea, often accompanied by fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, tenesmus, and hyperactive bowel sounds. Due to the severe diarrhea, patients frequently develop perianal skin abrasions, desquamation, anal fissures, or anal fistulas. Treatment typically involves combination therapy with 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) preparations and corticosteroids, along with necessary supportive care. During treatment, patients should remain on bed rest and consume primarily liquid or semi-liquid diets, avoiding high-fat foods.
