Is low aldosterone good or bad?
Disease description:
I have hypertension, so I recently underwent a medical examination. The test report indicated low aldosterone levels. Could you please tell me whether low aldosterone is beneficial or harmful?
Low aldosterone levels signal an endocrine imbalance in the body, indicating underlying health problems and are therefore considered abnormal. Hypoaldosteronism may result from either impaired peripheral action of aldosterone or reduced overall aldosterone secretion. Common clinical manifestations include hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, hypovolemia, and urinary salt wasting—potentially reflecting adrenal insufficiency affecting the entire adrenal gland. Dietary management should emphasize low-fat, low-sodium intake; alcohol and tobacco must be strictly avoided, and emotional stress or agitation should be minimized.
