How to Use Blood Glucose Test Strips

In general, each brand of blood glucose meter requires its own proprietary test strips—test strips from one brand cannot be used with a glucose meter from another brand. Prior to using the blood glucose meter, proper disinfection is essential; medical-grade alcohol is recommended for this purpose. When performing blood glucose monitoring, the first drop of blood should be discarded; only the subsequent drop should be applied to the test strip. When handling the test strips, always close the container lid immediately after removing a strip to minimize exposure to air, as prolonged exposure may compromise test accuracy.
