Why Does an Electronic Sphygmomanometer Yield Different Readings Each Time?
Disease description:
Every time I use an electronic sphygmomanometer to measure my grandfather’s blood pressure, the readings are different. Why does the electronic sphygmomanometer give a different result each time?
Electronic sphygmomanometers may not provide highly accurate blood pressure readings. If significant discrepancies are observed, it is recommended to use a mercury sphygmomanometer for confirmation and to further assess the accuracy of the electronic device. If large differences persist, check the battery—low battery power may be a contributing factor. Blood pressure measurements are not static; therefore, repeated measurements within a short time interval are not advisable.
