Ginger tea is a notably pungent and stimulating beverage; drinking it may intensify pharyngeal congestion and accelerate local blood flow to the tonsils. This can potentially trigger or worsen tonsillar inflammation, significantly aggravating symptoms such as sore throat and burning discomfort. Moreover, ginger tea has no clinically proven antibacterial or anti-inflammatory effects. In clinical practice, ginger tea is not recommended for patients with tonsillitis—especially those with purulent tonsillitis.

Ginger tea may exacerbate throat pain and burning sensations in tonsillitis patients.
