Why Do Pregnant Women Snore?
Snoring is a common phenomenon in daily life; when someone is extremely tired and falls asleep, they may begin to snore.
Why do pregnant women snore?
Snoring during pregnancy may result from improper sleeping posture, weight gain, or narrowing of the upper airway. Generally, snoring during pregnancy does not adversely affect the mother’s health or fetal development. However, if weight gain occurs rapidly, dietary intake should be appropriately controlled. When sleeping, selecting an appropriate pillow and adjusting pillow height can help alleviate snoring. If a pregnant woman experiences symptoms such as apnea (pauses in breathing) or wheezing alongside snoring, this may lead to fetal hypoxia (oxygen deficiency); prompt medical evaluation is essential to rule out underlying organic diseases.

After becoming pregnant, attention should be paid to food hygiene, safety, and nutritional balance. Consume more green, natural foods and fewer processed items containing excessive additives. For example, increase intake of leafy green vegetables, low-sugar fruits, and high-quality beef and lamb, while reducing consumption of starchy staples such as refined flour and white rice. Avoid eating out whenever possible, as restaurant meals—though delicious—often contain excessive seasonings like salt and soy sauce. Excessive salt intake during pregnancy may elevate blood pressure. Additionally, some street foods may be unhygienic and predispose to diarrhea; therefore, they should be avoided or consumed sparingly. Spicy or excessively cold foods should also be limited or avoided.

If snoring develops during pregnancy, timely medical consultation and treatment are recommended. We hope this information has been helpful.
