Methods for Removing Flat Warts on the Eyelids
Flat warts are a skin condition caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This condition predominantly affects adolescents and commonly appears on the face and back of the hands. Flat warts are mildly contagious and can spread through direct or indirect contact. They typically present as oval or polygonal, flat-topped papules. So, what are the treatment options for flat warts located around the eyes?
Treatment Options for Periocular Flat Warts
When flat warts occur near the eyes, topical applications such as vinegar-soaked egg solution or barley flour paste may be used to help diminish them. Topical retinoid medications may also be applied directly to the lesions, and oral retinoids may be prescribed in certain cases. Alternatively, laser therapy or cryotherapy (freezing) are effective clinical interventions for removal. To prepare the vinegar-soaked egg remedy: boil an egg—including its shell—then soak it in vinegar for approximately six months until the shell fully dissolves. Remove the egg, rinse it gently with warm water, and consume it daily for two weeks; this regimen may help reduce the size and number of flat warts.

Another traditional approach involves using Job’s tears (Coix lacryma-jobi), a commonly used herbal medicine known to enhance immune function and exert antiviral and anti-wart effects. Grind dried Job’s tears into a fine powder, mix it thoroughly with warm water, and apply the resulting paste directly onto the affected area. For severe facial flat warts, laser therapy or cryotherapy remains the preferred medical treatment.

Patients are advised to avoid scratching or picking at flat warts, as this may facilitate viral spread and lead to further lesion development. We hope this information is helpful to you.
