Introduction
Whether a blood glucose level of 6.2 mmol/L is high depends on the specific circumstances. For the general population, normal fasting blood glucose ranges from 3.9 to 6.1 mmol/L; for pregnant women, fasting blood glucose should not exceed 5.1 mmol/L—in these cases, 6.2 mmol/L is considered high. However, one hour after a meal, normal blood glucose levels for the general population range from 6.7 to 9.4 mmol/L, making 6.2 mmol/L relatively low at that time.

Whether a blood glucose level of 6.2 mmol/L is high depends on the specific circumstances.

1. It may be high

The normal fasting blood glucose range for the general population is 3.9–6.1 mmol/L; therefore, a glucose level of 6.2 mmol/L exceeds the normal range. Additionally, for pregnant women, the normal fasting blood glucose should not exceed 5.1 mmol/L. If a pregnant woman has a fasting blood glucose measurement of 6.2 mmol/L, this is already above the normal range.

2. It may not be high

For the general population, the blood glucose level one hour after a meal typically ranges from 6.7 to 9.4 mmol/L, and should not exceed 11.1 mmol/L. Therefore, a blood glucose reading of 6.2 mmol/L one hour after eating would fall below the expected postprandial range. Furthermore, two hours after a meal, blood glucose should be ≤7.8 mmol/L in the general population, while for pregnant women, it should not exceed 10.0 mmol/L one hour after eating or 8.5 mmol/L two hours after eating. In these contexts, a blood glucose level of 6.2 mmol/L falls within the normal range and is not considered high.
