Introduction
Red amaranth is a food relatively high in anthocyanins and also rich in trace elements such as iron and vitamin K. After entering the intestines, the pigments in red amaranth can easily cause stool discoloration, turning it red. This is a normal physiological phenomenon that generally does not require special treatment. After reducing or stopping consumption of this food, stool color will gradually return to normal.

Red amaranth usually turns stool red.

Red amaranth is a food high in anthocyanins and also rich in trace elements such as iron and vitamin K. After entering the intestines, the pigments in red amaranth can easily stain the stool, causing it to appear red. This is a normal physiological phenomenon that generally does not require special treatment. Stool color typically returns to normal gradually after reducing or stopping consumption of this food.

Although red amaranth may cause red-colored stool, it usually does not lead to other discomfort symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, or vomiting. However, if a person continues to have red stool for an extended period after eating red amaranth, especially if the stool appears dark red or blackish-red, gastrointestinal bleeding should be suspected. Common digestive disorders such as gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers can cause gastrointestinal bleeding, resulting in excessive red blood cells in the stool and leading to red-colored bowel movements.

Red amaranth is rich in dietary fiber and low in calories. Moderate daily consumption can help improve hematopoietic function and prevent constipation.
