How long should bayberry be soaked in water before eating?
Under normal circumstances, it is recommended to soak bayberries in water for about 10 to 20 minutes before eating.
Bayberries have no outer shell, making them susceptible to insect infestation and dust accumulation. Soaking them in salted water effectively kills bacteria and helps remove insects and dirt from inside the fruit. If the soaking time is too short, it may fail to adequately eliminate bacteria and dust, potentially leading to intestinal inflammation, nausea, or vomiting. Conversely, if the soaking time is too long, it may negatively affect the vitamins, proteins, and dietary fiber within the bayberries, resulting in nutritional loss and a diminished taste.
It is advised not to consume bayberries together with cucumbers. Cucumbers contain significant amounts of vitamin C-decomposing enzymes, which may break down the vitamin C in bayberries, reducing their nutritional benefits. Additionally, excessive consumption of bayberries should be avoided, as it may overstimulate gastric acid secretion and adversely affect digestive health.
