What causes the feeling of hunger no matter how much you eat?
Feeling hungry no matter how much you eat may be caused by psychological factors, or it could result from medical conditions such as erosive gastritis or hyperthyroidism.
1. Psychological factors
When experiencing negative emotions—such as anxiety, loneliness, fear, or depression—the autonomic nervous system may be affected, leading to false sensations of hunger, manifesting as persistent feelings of hunger regardless of food intake.
2. Erosive gastritis
If a person frequently has irregular eating habits, consumes excessive alcohol, or takes medications that damage the gastric mucosa, this can lead to excessive gastric acid secretion. The resulting irritation and erosion of the stomach lining in erosive gastritis may cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. It can also easily lead to a constant feeling of hunger despite eating.
3. Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism places the body in a state of high metabolism. Main symptoms include weight loss, increased appetite, frequent urination, and easy onset of hunger. The accelerated metabolic rate increases the sensation of hunger, causing individuals to feel hungry no matter how much they eat.
