What causes stomach pain when walking?
Abdominal pain while walking may be a physiological phenomenon or caused by conditions such as gastroenteritis or intestinal spasms. It is recommended to seek medical evaluation for proper diagnosis and differentiation.
1. Physiological phenomenon
If walking for a long duration, at a fast pace, or over a long distance, the abdominal muscles may become tense, leading to muscle spasms and resulting in abdominal pain during walking.
2. Gastroenteritis
Gastroenteritis is usually caused by microbial infections from bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Ingestion of toxins or medications that irritate the gastrointestinal tract can also trigger gastroenteritis, causing digestive symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, which may subsequently lead to abdominal pain while walking.
3. Intestinal spasms
Dysfunction in gastrointestinal motility or autonomic nerve function of the intestines may lead to indigestion. Additionally, factors such as a cold abdomen, or allergic reactions to certain foods, can all cause intestinal spasms, resulting in paroxysmal abdominal pain. Diarrhea or bloody stools may also occur, thereby causing abdominal pain during walking.
