Introduction
It is normal to experience an itchy throat after contracting COVID-19. The itchiness may result from dry climate conditions following infection, and individuals with pre-existing pharyngitis may be more prone to developing such symptoms. It is advisable to promptly identify the underlying cause and actively cooperate with treatment. When experiencing throat irritation, one should avoid spicy and irritating foods and strictly follow medical advice when taking medications.

Itching in the throat after a COVID-19 infection is generally a normal symptom of the disease. After being infected with the virus, throat itching may result from dry climate conditions. If the patient already has pre-existing pharyngitis, this can also trigger related symptoms. It is recommended to promptly identify the underlying cause and actively cooperate with treatment.

1. COVID-19 Symptoms

After contracting a novel coronavirus infection, patients often develop inflammation due to the viral activity, which can lead to an itchy throat. Under a doctor's guidance, patients may take medications such as Lianhua Qingwen Capsules or Qingfei Detoxification Granules to reduce viral load, alleviate disease symptoms, and relieve discomfort.

2. Dry Weather

In dry climates or environments with low indoor humidity—especially when body temperature fluctuates during illness—body fluids may be lost more quickly, increasing the risk of throat irritation. Maintaining proper air humidity using a humidifier is advisable. Additionally, individuals should consciously increase fluid intake to prevent throat dryness and itching.

3. Pharyngitis

If a patient already suffers from chronic inflammation of the throat, a COVID-19 infection may exacerbate these existing symptoms, leading to throat itching. It is recommended to treat both the viral infection and the underlying pharyngitis simultaneously with appropriate anti-inflammatory medications. Patients should also avoid smoking and ensure adequate rest.

To manage throat itching, individuals should minimize consumption of spicy and irritating foods and strictly follow medical advice when taking medication. Eating spicy or irritating foods may worsen symptoms and delay recovery.
