Can watermelon and river crab be eaten together?
Watermelon and freshwater crab should generally not be consumed together.
From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, both watermelon and freshwater crab are considered to have cold and cool properties. Consuming them together may irritate the digestive system, leading to weakened spleen and stomach function, reduced secretion of intestinal digestive fluids, and abnormal intestinal motility, which could result in discomfort such as bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. It may also reduce nutrient absorption from food, potentially causing hypoglycemia or malnutrition, diminish the nutritional value of meals, and weaken overall constitution.
If a person is not allergic to watermelon or crab, these two foods can generally be consumed separately, with an interval of about 2 to 3 hours. It's also important to control portion sizes and avoid overeating.
