Will 45-degree water kill probiotics?
45 degrees generally refers to 45°C. Water at 45°C usually does not kill probiotics.
Probiotics typically work by colonizing the human body, regulating mucosal and systemic immune functions, balancing the intestinal environment, promoting nutrient absorption, and maintaining gut health. Probiotics contain live bacterial strains; if the water used is too hot during preparation, it may kill the probiotics. Therefore, the water temperature should be kept between 37°C and 40°C to help the medication exert its therapeutic effects effectively. While water at 45°C might reduce the microbial activity and somewhat affect treatment efficacy, it generally does not completely destroy the probiotics.
After use, probiotics should be stored in a cool, dry place to prevent loss of potency.
