Introduction
Uterine contractions are generally divided into physiological and pathological types, and usually manifest as symptoms such as abdominal tightness and lower abdominal fullness. In addition, if strong uterine contractions occur, pregnant women may experience severe pain, obvious tenderness, and accompanying symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Prompt medical treatment is necessary to prevent potential complications.

Uterine contractions are generally divided into physiological and pathological contractions, which typically present symptoms such as abdominal tightness and lower abdominal pressure.

I. Physiological Uterine Contractions

1. False Labor Contractions

After 14 weeks of pregnancy, irregular uterine contractions may occur. Due to the heightened sensitivity of the uterine muscles, excessive fatigue or significant emotional fluctuations may lead to irregular sensations of tightening or hardening of the abdomen, varying in intensity. These contractions do not cause cervical dilation and are considered false labor (Braxton Hicks contractions). No special treatment is usually required; adequate rest and maintaining a positive mental state can help alleviate these symptoms.

2. True Labor Contractions

Prior to delivery, pregnant women experience regular uterine contractions accompanied by noticeable episodic abdominal pain. The duration and intensity of these pains gradually increase. The lower abdomen becomes hard, and the contraction pain spreads downward to the lower abdomen, often accompanied by backache and a sensation of needing to defecate. In such cases, delivery should proceed under medical guidance.

II. Pathological Uterine Contractions

If miscarriage occurs during pregnancy, episodes of abdominal pain may appear. Immediate medical evaluation is necessary. If fetal development is normal, fetal preservation treatment should be initiated. Medications such as dydrogesterone tablets or progesterone capsules may be prescribed by a doctor for this purpose.

In addition, if tonic (excessive, sustained) uterine contractions occur, the pregnant woman may experience severe pain with obvious tenderness, accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Prompt medical treatment is essential to prevent complications or danger.
