Does the nipple itch in early-stage breast cancer?
In early-stage breast cancer, the nipple usually itches.
Breast cancer is primarily a disease caused by uncontrolled proliferation of breast epithelial cells. In its early stages, it may present symptoms such as breast lumps, swollen axillary lymph nodes, nipple discharge, and abnormalities of the nipple or areola. In particular, conditions like Paget's disease of the breast or inflammatory breast cancer may cause itching of the nipple in the early phase. However, nipple itching could also result from other causes, including poor hygiene, nipple eczema, allergic reactions, neurodermatitis, or benign breast hyperplasia.
When experiencing nipple itching, avoid frequent scratching to prevent skin ulceration. It's important to maintain cleanliness of the breasts and nipples in daily life and keep the nipple area dry.
