Introduction
Fever refers to an elevated body temperature. In general, infant fever, crying, and irritability may be caused by factors such as an overly hot environment, common cold, pharyngitis, sinusitis, or pneumonia. Symptomatic treatment can be provided based on the specific underlying cause. If a baby develops fever and irritability, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the cause, and undergo appropriate, standardized treatment.

Fever refers to an elevated body temperature. In general, a baby's fever, crying, and irritability may be caused by factors such as an overly hot environment, common cold, pharyngitis, sinusitis, or pneumonia. Symptomatic treatment can be administered based on the specific underlying cause. The details are as follows:

1. Overly Hot Environment

When the ambient temperature is too high, a baby's thermoregulatory system may become overwhelmed. The baby may not dissipate heat effectively, leading to increased body temperature and symptoms of fever. Additionally, in high temperatures, babies may feel uncomfortable and sweat excessively. Excessive sweating can dampen their clothing, causing discomfort and resulting in crying and irritability. This is a normal condition; it is recommended to open windows appropriately and lower the indoor temperature.

2. Common Cold

The common cold is usually caused by various viral infections. After viruses enter the baby's respiratory tract, they trigger an inflammatory response from the immune system, with fever being a common symptom. At the same time, the cold causes inflammation in the nasal passages and throat, leading to upper respiratory symptoms such as nasal congestion, sore throat, and coughing. These symptoms can make the baby feel uncomfortable and irritable. Medications such as ibuprofen suspension or acetaminophen suspension drops may be used under a doctor's guidance.

3. Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis may result from bacterial infection, which triggers an inflammatory response and subsequently leads to fever. Inflammation also causes congestion and swelling of the mucous membranes in the throat, resulting in irritability and frequent crying. Treatment may include medications such as cefixime granules or cefuroxime axetil granules, as prescribed by a doctor. However, caution should be exercised when using these medications in infants under 6 months of age.

4. Sinusitis

Sinusitis is typically an upper respiratory infection caused by bacterial infection. The bacterial invasion triggers an inflammatory response from the immune system, including fever. Sinusitis causes congestion and inflammation of the sinus mucosa, leading to nasal obstruction, facial pain, and discomfort. These unpleasant sensations may lead to crying and irritability in the baby. Medications such as amoxicillin granules or cefradine granules may be used under medical supervision.

5. Pneumonia

Pneumonia may be caused by Mycoplasma infection, leading to inflammatory infiltration of lung tissue and accumulation of inflammatory exudates within the alveoli. Treatment may involve medications such as cephalexin granules or ampicillin granules, used under a doctor’s guidance.

If a baby develops fever and irritability, prompt medical consultation is recommended to identify the underlying cause and initiate appropriate treatment.
