Difference between bleeding from cervicitis and bleeding from cervical cancer

Cervicitis bleeding and cervical cancer bleeding differ in terms of blood volume, timing of bleeding, and treatment methods.

1. Difference in blood volume

Cervicitis causes inflammation of the cervix, vaginal portion, and cervical mucosa, typically resulting in minimal bleeding, which often occurs during menstruation or after sexual intercourse. In contrast, cervical cancer is a malignant tumor originating in the cervix and usually involves heavier bleeding that persists over time and may easily lead to anemia.

2. Difference in timing of bleeding

Bleeding due to cervicitis is generally slight and commonly appears as irregular vaginal bleeding after sexual intercourse, whereas cervical cancer presents with recurrent episodes of vaginal bleeding.

3. Difference in treatment methods

Cervicitis and cervical cancer are two distinct diseases requiring different treatments. Cervicitis can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications such as amoxicillin capsules or ofloxacin tablets. Cervical cancer, however, requires surgical removal of the malignant tumor under medical guidance.

Besides the above, the symptoms they present also differ. During treatment, sexual activity should be avoided, and patients should consume iron-rich foods such as spinach and animal liver.
