Why is expressed breast milk cold?
Breast milk being expressed cold may be caused by environmental factors, insufficient clothing, poor dietary habits, and other factors.
1. Environmental Factors
If living in a low-temperature environment, breast milk may temporarily drop in temperature once separated from the body, leading to the above phenomenon. Breastfeeding can be done in a warmer environment, or the milk can be warmed before feeding.
2. Insufficient Clothing
If a woman wears too little clothing, her body may become chilled, resulting in lower body temperature, which could contribute to this condition. It is important to stay warm and avoid exposure to cold.
3. Poor Dietary Habits
If a breastfeeding woman frequently consumes cold foods such as chilled watermelon or ice cream, it may lower her body temperature, thereby affecting the temperature of her breast milk and causing the aforementioned issue. She should consume more warm foods and increase intake of high-protein foods to provide essential nutrients for the body.
In addition to the common causes mentioned above, a constitutionally cold body type may also be a factor. Spicy and stimulating foods should be avoided to prevent compromising breast milk quality and negatively affecting infant development.
