How high is too high for homocysteine levels?
Homocysteine, also known as homocysteine, is considered elevated when levels exceed 15 μmol/L, which allows for a diagnosis of hyperhomocysteinemia. The specific classification is as follows:
Under normal circumstances, the reference range for homocysteine is 5–15 μmol/L. Levels above 15 μmol/L indicate hyperhomocysteinemia. If plasma homocysteine levels are between 16 and 30 μmol/L, this is classified as mild hyperhomocysteinemia. Levels between 30 and 100 μmol/L indicate moderate hyperhomocysteinemia. When plasma homocysteine exceeds 100 μmol/L, it is considered severe hyperhomocysteinemia.
It is recommended to ensure adequate rest, engage in appropriate physical exercise, and consume more foods rich in folic acid and vitamins, which may help alleviate symptoms.
