Introduction
Abandoning radiotherapy halfway may have negative consequences, potentially leading to excessive proliferation of cancer cells and progressive worsening of the disease in a short period, thereby increasing the risk of recurrence and metastasis. If significant side effects occur during radiotherapy, treatment may be temporarily paused under a doctor's guidance; however, the break should not exceed seven days.

Abandoning radiotherapy halfway is generally not advisable and may have negative consequences. Patients should actively cooperate with their doctors and must not give up treatment midway. Specific reasons are as follows:

Radiation therapy uses ionizing radiation to target and treat specific areas of the body, primarily for treating malignant conditions such as stomach cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, etc. To achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes, radiotherapy must usually be completed according to a prescribed course without interruption. Stopping treatment prematurely may lead to excessive proliferation of cancer cells, potentially causing rapid disease progression within a short period and increasing the risks of recurrence and metastasis.

If significant side effects occur during radiotherapy—such as fever, nausea, or vomiting—patients should not immediately abandon treatment. Instead, they should promptly inform their doctor. Under medical guidance, treatment may be temporarily suspended, but the break should not exceed seven days to avoid compromising the overall effectiveness of the therapy.
