Introduction
There is generally no single most suitable method. In the third trimester, pregnant women can wash their hair by standing and rinsing, lying flat while having family members assist, or going to a hair salon—all of which are relatively appropriate options. During the late stages of pregnancy, a woman's body becomes very heavy, making it difficult to perform many daily tasks independently. Bending over to wash hair is particularly inconvenient and may put pressure on the abdomen.

There is generally no single most suitable method. In the third trimester, pregnant women can wash their hair by standing under the shower, lying down while a family member helps, or going to a hair salon—all of which are appropriate options. The details are as follows:

1. Standing Shower

During the late stages of pregnancy, a woman's body becomes heavy and many daily tasks become difficult. Bending over to wash hair is particularly inconvenient and may put pressure on the abdomen. Pregnant women can usually stand in the shower and wash their hair while bathing. When washing hair at home, pay attention to water temperature, and dry the hair immediately with a hair dryer after washing to avoid catching a cold.

2. Lying Down with Family Assistance

In late pregnancy, the increased physical burden and large belly can obstruct visibility and balance, increasing the risk of slipping and falling in the bathroom, which might lead to premature placental abruption and affect fetal development. Therefore, pregnant women who wish to wash their hair can lie flat on the bed and have a family member assist. However, it's important to avoid lying flat for prolonged periods, as this may cause the fetus to compress the inferior vena cava, leading to dizziness, chest tightness, palpitations, or supine hypotensive syndrome. It may also impair placental blood circulation and cause fetal hypoxia.

3. Going to a Hair Salon

If family members are unavailable, pregnant women in their third trimester may choose to go to a hair salon. Routine hair washing does not negatively affect the fetus or harm the mother. When washing hair during late pregnancy, in addition to avoiding excessively long sessions and frequent washing, the water temperature should be comfortably warm—ideally between 40°C and 60°C.

Pregnant women in the third trimester should avoid strenuous exercise and undergo regular fetal heart monitoring. If any abnormalities occur, they should seek medical attention promptly.
