Can I have sexual intercourse after getting a stent?
In general, marital life refers to sexual activity, and it is possible to resume sexual activity after receiving a stent.
Stent placement usually involves implanting a stent into the coronary artery to help relieve symptoms of inadequate blood supply to the heart. It is indicated for patients with more than 75% narrowing in the main coronary artery accompanied by significant myocardial ischemia. After stent surgery, the patient's vascular condition gradually returns to near-normal, and they can typically tolerate moderate physical activity. For example, if climbing two or more flights of stairs does not cause any discomfort, engaging in sexual activity is generally safe and unlikely to cause adverse effects. However, during the acute phase, strenuous activities—including sexual activity—are not recommended to avoid complications and ensure proper recovery.
After surgery, it is advisable to consume an appropriate amount of foods rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals—such as fish, eggs, fresh vegetables, and fruits—to promote wound healing and overall recovery.
