Introduction
Can ligament injuries heal spontaneously? Most ligament injuries can heal on their own, provided they are not severe. Rest, oral nutritional supplements, and appropriate functional exercises typically facilitate substantial recovery. However, severe injuries may require surgical repair. During recovery, avoid physical activity that could cause re-injury. Heat therapy can be initiated within 24 hours after the injury.

Ligament injury is primarily a condition characterized by ligament tearing and edema. Most cases are self-limiting and can heal spontaneously, provided the injury is not severe. Conservative management—including rest, oral nutritional supplements, and targeted functional rehabilitation exercises—typically enables full recovery. However, severe injuries may require surgical re-suturing. During recovery, it is essential to avoid physical activity that could cause secondary injury. Heat therapy may be initiated within 24 hours post-injury, followed by gentle massage to improve local tissue temperature and microcirculation, thereby facilitating healing. Yunnan Baiyao spray may also aid recovery following ligament strain. For partial ligament tears or simple sprains, external immobilization using braces or plaster casts is recommended, typically for 4–6 weeks, after which functional rehabilitation exercises should commence. In cases of complete ligament rupture, surgical repair or reconstruction is necessary; adjunctive techniques such as suture anchors may be employed when indicated.
