Introduction
Under normal circumstances, mannitol refers to mannitol injection. The use of mannitol injection may cause side effects such as mild electrolyte disturbances, increased urine output and thirst, tissue edema, hypotension, and acute kidney injury. It is recommended to strictly follow medical instructions when using mannitol injection, and not to adjust the dosage or administration method without authorization, in order to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medication.

Generally, mannitol is commonly available as an injectable formulation, including mannitol injection and compound mannitol injection. The use of mannitol may cause side effects such as mild electrolyte disturbances, increased urine output and thirst, tissue edema, hypotension, and acute kidney injury. Detailed explanations are as follows:

1. Mild Electrolyte Disturbances

Mannitol has a diuretic effect and may lead to mild electrolyte imbalance in the body, causing symptoms such as fatigue and muscle cramps. These imbalances can usually be corrected by adjusting the diet and appropriately replenishing electrolytes.

2. Increased Urine Output and Thirst

Mannitol promotes water excretion by the kidneys. After administration of mannitol injection, patients commonly experience increased urine output. This increased urination may cause frequent urination and a strong sensation of thirst.

3. Tissue Edema

If mannitol leaks into the subcutaneous tissue during intravenous infusion, it may cause local tissue edema, usually accompanied by pain and a sensation of skin tightness. Once tissue edema is detected, the infusion should be stopped immediately, and local cold compresses or other measures should be taken to alleviate symptoms.

4. Hypotension

Mannitol has a diuretic effect that may lead to reduced blood volume, thereby causing hypotension. Patients with low blood pressure may experience symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations after receiving mannitol injection.

5. Acute Kidney Injury

If the patient already has impaired kidney function or if the dose of mannitol is too high, acute kidney damage may occur, leading to symptoms such as oliguria, anuria, and elevated serum creatinine levels. In severe cases, this may progress to kidney failure.

It is recommended that mannitol injection be used strictly according to medical instructions. Do not adjust the dosage or change the method of administration on your own in order to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the medication.
