Can myopia cause dizziness?
Nearsightedness may cause dizziness, especially when vision is not corrected in time, improperly corrected, or when the eyes are overused. The dizziness tends to become more noticeable and is often related to abnormal eye accommodation and refractive errors. With appropriate intervention, symptoms can be effectively relieved. If dizziness is accompanied by eye pain, sudden vision loss, or severe headache, prompt medical attention is recommended.

In individuals with myopia, the axial length of the eye elongates, causing parallel light rays to fail to focus precisely on the retina. The eyes must continuously adjust in an attempt to see clearly. Prolonged excessive adjustment leads to eye muscle fatigue and spasms, which can trigger dizziness, often accompanied by eye strain and blurred vision.
Improper correction—such as not wearing glasses, wearing glasses with incorrect prescription (too high or too low), or lenses with misaligned optical centers—forces the eyes into a constant state of compensation. This increases the accommodative burden, disrupts visual balance, and results in dizziness. Such symptoms are more likely to occur after getting new glasses or following extended periods of eye use.
Daily management includes wearing properly prescribed glasses, avoiding prolonged screen time, taking breaks every hour to look into the distance and relax eye muscles, maintaining correct reading and writing posture, ensuring adequate lighting, and consuming foods rich in vitamin A and lutein to support overall eye health.
