Surgical Approaches for Ectopic Pregnancy
The first surgical option is a “window” procedure—i.e., making an incision in the fallopian tube to remove the ectopic gestational sac, followed by re-suturing the tube. This approach is suitable only when the ectopic pregnancy has not yet ruptured—that is, when it is detected early enough.
The second option is required when a tubal ectopic pregnancy has ruptured and caused significant hemorrhage; in such cases, the affected segment of the fallopian tube must be removed, which reduces the likelihood of future pregnancy.
Therefore, early detection and prompt treatment of ectopic pregnancy are essential. During early pregnancy, ultrasound examination can help confirm whether the pregnancy is intrauterine or ectopic.
