Treatment of Chronic Glomerulonephritis
In the Western medical management of chronic glomerulonephritis, dietary control is paramount: patients must adhere to a low-salt, low-fat diet with high-quality protein sources—such as milk, eggs, lean meat, and poultry.
Additionally, treatment targets specific clinical manifestations—for example, diuretics are used to manage edema, while strict blood pressure control is essential to prevent further glomerulosclerosis.
Glomerular diseases may also induce hematologic complications, such as anemia or coagulation abnormalities. These can be addressed with antiplatelet agents or appropriate anticoagulant therapy. Generally, corticosteroids are not routinely prescribed for glomerulonephritis, particularly in early stages, due to their relatively significant adverse effects. Instead, certain traditional Chinese patent medicines may be considered as alternative therapeutic options.
